The Buncheong Cultural Museum of Goheung County, South Jeolla Province (Governor Gong Youngmin), announced on September 4 that the opening ceremony for the 2025 special exhibition, "Goheung Ancient Tombs: Opening the Door to Antiquity," will be held at 2 p.m. on September 9.

This exhibition, which will run until December 7 in the museum’s special exhibition hall, brings together over 1,000 artifacts excavated from ancient tombs distributed throughout the Goheung region. It highlights Goheung’s historical significance as a central hub for maritime exchange along the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula in ancient times.

This exhibition presents the results of research conducted since the first excavations at the Andong Ancient Tombs in Podu-myeon and Yamak Ancient Tombs in Pungyang-myeon in 2006, up to the most recent studies. Through a diverse array of excavated items such as ornaments, weapons, and pottery, it showcases the political and cultural stature of ancient Goheung and traces of its international exchanges.

Furthermore, the exhibition is designed to make the academic achievements regarding ancient tombs, which were previously considered difficult to understand, accessible to visitors. Through hands-on programs like "Making a Gilt Bronze Crown" and four daily guided tours led by professional docents, visitors can experience the allure of Goheung’s ancient culture in greater depth.

An official from the Buncheong Cultural Museum stated, "The museum has continuously conducted a variety of exhibitions and academic research to widely promote the historical value of Goheung’s ancient culture. We hope this exhibition will serve as an opportunity to increase interest in and pride for Goheung’s ancient cultural heritage."
