Cigarette smoke will disappear from taxi stands in Busan. Starting September 1, the Busan city government has designated approximately 200 taxi stands throughout the city as no-smoking zones.
This measure aims to create a more pleasant environment in areas where citizens gather to use taxis. Smoking is prohibited within a 10-meter radius of each taxi stand.
Enforcement will not begin immediately; instead, there will be a three-month guidance period until the end of November. Starting December 1, a fine of 50,000 won will be imposed on those caught smoking.
The Busan city government plans to attach no-smoking signs to the taxi stands and encourage voluntary participation from citizens through a public awareness campaign.
Cho Gyuyul, Director of the Busan City Citizens' Health Bureau, said, "If smoke-free taxi stands become established, both citizens' health and the urban environment will improve," adding, "We hope many citizens will join in spreading a smoke-free culture."
