The Wonju Gender Equality Festival has been held annually during Gender Equality Week (September 1-7) since 1997, in order to carry on the spirit of the "Declaration of Women's Rights," Korea's first women's rights declaration, which was announced on September 1, 1898.

This year's event, marking its 29th edition, is organized under the theme "Gender Equality Together, A Greater Wonju" and aims to spread a culture of gender equality.

The program will begin with a pre-event performance by the 36th Infantry Division Military Band. The first part will include the reading of the 21st Century Charter of Gender Equality, an awards ceremony for contributions to gender equality, the reading of a resolution, and a gender equality performance. In the second part, Gong Hoon, a trot singer and Wonju's honorary ambassador, will hold a healing concert.

In addition, promotional booths from various organizations, including the Wonju Women's New Work Center, Wonju City Family Center, National Pension Service, and the Korea Organ Donation Agency, will be set up outside the venue.

Won Eunhyang, President of the Wonju Council of Women's Organizations, stated, "By successfully hosting the Gender Equality Festival as a place for communication and harmony, we will brighten the future of Wonju."

Won Kangsoo, Mayor of Wonju, said, "We will take the lead in creating a Wonju where both men and women can dream of a greater future through our continued efforts to spread a culture of gender equality."
