The tournament that 'Queen of Autumn' Sooji Kim welcomes is about to begin.
The 14th KG Ladies Open on the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour, with a total prize fund of 1 billion won, will be fiercely contested for three days starting on August 29 at the Sunny Point Country Club (par 72, 6,728 yards) in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. This is the promised land where Kim claimed her first career victory at the 10th KG Edaily Ladies Open in September 2021.
Sooji Kim is a powerhouse with a total of six career victories, including three major titles. Interestingly, she has collected all her trophies after August, at the time when the intense summer heat fades. This is why she has earned the nickname 'Queen of Autumn.'
Although she has not won since her victory at the major Hite Jinro Championship in October last year, she has maintained solid form. While she has not secured a win this year, she has consistently finished near the top. She has made the cut in 14 out of 16 tournaments and has placed in the top 10 seven times. Her best result was a fourth-place finish at the Aurora World Ladies Championship, which concluded on August 3.
Kim is on a sharp upward trajectory, having finished in the top 10 in four of her last five tournaments. She currently ranks 25th on the money list (309.75 million won), 12th in Player of the Year points (220 points), and 9th in scoring average (70.13 strokes). With fond memories of her 2021 victory, she is aiming for her seventh career win.
The tournament organizers have prepared a variety of special prizes for the players participating in this event. The winner will receive a prize of 180 million won, an Actyon HEV vehicle worth 37 million won, and a one-year free round pass at Sunny Point Country Club. The first player to record a hole-in-one on any par-3 hole will receive a vehicle provided by KG Mobility.
The "Love Birdie Campaign" event will also take place. For each birdie, 50,000 won will be donated, and for each eagle or hole-in-one, 100,000 won will be donated to the Kwak Jaesun Cultural Foundation. As of last year, the cumulative donation amount has reached 560.4 million won.
