On August 26, the Korean Senior Citizens Association held the "Appointment Ceremony for Advisors to the Korean Senior Citizens Association" at the Booyoung Taepyeong Building in Jung-gu, Seoul, bringing on board a significant number of highly respected senior political figures as advisors and officially launching efforts to address the challenges of a super-aged society. Of the 44 individuals selected as advisors, 32 attended the ceremony, including Lee Joongkeun, President of the Korean Senior Citizens Association and Chairman of Booyoung Group.
The newly appointed advisory panel includes prominent figures who have shaped modern Korean history, such as Kwon Nokap, Senior Advisor to the Democratic Party of Korea (13th to 15th National Assembly member); Lee Jongchan, President of the Liberation Association (11th to 14th National Assembly member); and Chung Daecheol, President of the Constitutional Assembly (9th, 10th, 13th, 14th, and 16th National Assembly member). On this day, Chung Daecheol received the letter of appointment as the representative of the advisory panel.
In his welcoming remarks, President Lee Joongkeun expressed his gratitude, saying, "I look forward to the sound development of the Korean Senior Citizens Association through the wise counsel and advice of our esteemed advisors." He offered special thanks to the three senior advisors appointed as standing advisors, and urged, "I hope all of you will join us in ensuring that the proposals of the Korean Senior Citizens Association for the future of Korea can be realized."
President Lee also outlined the core policies currently being pursued by the Korean Senior Citizens Association. To prepare for a super-aged society, he proposed gradually raising the official senior age, currently set at 65, by one year annually up to 75, in order to manage the senior population appropriately. He also advocated for the activation of the "Home-Based End-of-Life Care System" so that people can pass away with dignity at home, and suggested designating "UN Day" as a public holiday again in gratitude for the sacrifices of Korean War veterans. In addition, he emphasized the association's role in national tasks such as the establishment of a "Ministry of Population" and the formation of a "National Housing Policy Committee."
Concluding his remarks, President Lee pledged, "The Korean Senior Citizens Association will continue to strive to improve the welfare of seniors and serve as a strong pillar representing 10 million elderly people, contributing to the development of the nation and society."
