Governor Kim Tae-heum Makes Nation's First Decision to Support Small Business Owners

Chungnam Province has become the first in the nation to provide special support funds to small business owners affected by the extreme heavy rains in July.

On the 24th, the provincial government announced that it had swiftly distributed a total of 11.4 billion won, granting 6 million won per person to 1,908 small business owners across 13 cities and counties affected by the disaster. This measure was taken ahead of government support and reflects the swift decision-making of Governor Kim Tae-heum.

Small business owners will receive a total of 14 million won in support, including 3 million won in government disaster relief funds and up to 5 million won in consolation payments for heavy rain damage.

The "realistic adjustment of support funds" proposed by Governor Kim at a presidential meeting with provincial governors has been implemented in practice.

The province held meetings with the Small Business Association and the Merchants Association to share updates on recovery progress and to outline the direction of next year’s support policies.

Cho Seje, head of the provincial Small Business Association, stated, "Thanks to the province being the first and fastest to provide support, it has been a great help in our recovery."

Jung Jeiui, president of the provincial Merchants Association, also said, "With this support, business districts that suffered significant damage, such as the Dangjin Traditional Market, will be revitalized."

A provincial official stated, "We will make every effort to reduce disaster damage in the future," and added, "Next year, we will create a better environment for small business owners in Chungnam through customized support policies."
