National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik will attend the 80th anniversary Victory Day event to be held in Beijing, China, on September 3.
On August 22, the Office of the National Assembly Speaker announced that this decision was made following an official invitation from the Chinese government for Speaker Woo to attend the Victory Day event.
As President Lee Jaemyung is expected not to attend the Victory Day, Speaker Woo, who is second in the national order of precedence, will represent South Korea at the event.
Speaker Woo will visit China with a delegation centered around the Korea-China Parliamentary Friendship Association, including Democratic Party lawmakers Park Jiwon, Kim Taenyon, Park Jung, and Hong Giwon; People Power Party lawmaker Kim Sungwon; and Cho Kuk Innovation Party lawmaker Kim Junhyung. Jo Osub, Chief Secretary to the Speaker of the National Assembly, will also accompany them.
Earlier, on August 20, Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Dai Bing met with Speaker Woo at the National Assembly in Yeouido and officially invited him to the Victory Day event in China.
