Yeongju City Holds GAP Herbal Medicine Meeting... "Accelerating Efforts to Strengthen Local Herbal Medicine Industry Competitiveness"

On August 21, Yeongju City held a "GAP Herbal Medicine Meeting" at the Yeongju Nonghyup Medicinal Crop Distribution Center in Pyeongeun-myeon to enhance the competitiveness of the local herbal medicine industry.

This meeting was organized to explore ways to expand the production of GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certified herbal medicines and to revitalize processing and distribution. The event was attended by 10 participants, including Kang Maeyoung, Head of the Distribution Support Division, relevant public officials, five representatives of GAP herbal medicine growers' groups, and two representatives of processing facilities.

The participants shared on-site challenges such as poor crop yields and increased pests and diseases due to climate change. They also discussed solutions to issues arising during the expansion of GAP certification, including management standards, cost burdens, and securing distribution channels.

Kang Maeyoung, Head of the Distribution Support Division, stated, "GAP certification is a system that provides safe and reliable agricultural products and serves as a foundation for enhancing the brand value of Yeongju's herbal medicines. We will strengthen our support to ensure that the GAP herbal medicine industry becomes a new growth engine for the region by reflecting the voices from the field."

Currently, there are 120 GAP-certified herbal medicine farms in Yeongju cultivating herbal medicines such as Rehmannia glutinosa, Astragalus, Atractylodes, Peony, and Schisandra on a total area of 58 hectares, with production expected to reach approximately 350 tons this year.
