The Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Investigation Unit of the Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency sent eight investigators to the provincial government office at around 9:30 a.m. that day to secure vehicle entry records and CCTV footage of people entering the governor's office.

The search and seizure warrant cited violations of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, and it is known that Governor Kim's mobile phone was also included among the items to be seized.

Police reportedly launched the investigation after detecting circumstances in which Governor Kim received an envelope containing several million won from Yoon Hyunwoo, head of the Chungbuk Sports Council and CEO of a construction company in Cheongju, inside the governor's office.
