Approximately 100 participants from various organizations, including Wolsong Nuclear Power Headquarters, the 1st Marine Division, Gyeongju Police Station, and Pohang Coast Guard, took part in the exercise. In a scenario where illegal drones simultaneously attacked nuclear facilities, the nuclear security personnel were able to detect, delay, and respond swiftly and effectively.
The drill was conducted in three stages under a realistic scenario: △ residents reporting drones and related agencies sharing the situation, △ detection and identification of drone locations using detection equipment and the operation of emergency response teams in response to escalating drone threats, and △ jamming of illegal drones, dispatch of the Wolsong security team and the Marine Corps rapid response unit, preservation of the crash site, emergency medical response and evacuation for casualties, and fire suppression.
This exercise significantly contributed to enhancing initial response capabilities in the event of a terrorist situation and to establishing a smooth cooperation system among related agencies.
Jung Wonho, head of the headquarters, stated, "Based on the results of this exercise, we will further specify our response manual and continuously strengthen our emergency preparedness through regular joint drills." He emphasized, "Wolsong Headquarters will prioritize the safety of nuclear facilities to protect the lives and property of the public, and we will do our utmost to contribute to the success of the APEC Summit to be held in Gyeongju in October."
