Yeongdeok County has recently urged small business owners and residents to exercise particular caution, as contract scams involving impersonation of public officials have been on the rise.
On August 19, there was an incident at a local gas station where a forged official document titled "Administrative Vehicle Diesel Purchase" was used in an attempt to fraudulently receive goods.
These scams typically involve individuals impersonating government officials or public institution employees, presenting forged official documents to demand contract agreements or the delivery of goods.
In particular, extra caution is needed if someone tries to conduct transactions solely over the phone without official documentation, or if they insist on urgent processing.
To prevent such damage, when receiving a request for a contract or goods purchase, do not proceed hastily just because the official document bears an official seal. Instead, it is safer to first call or visit the relevant agency or department directly to verify the facts.
Additionally, if you suspect fraudulent activity, it is important to report it to the police immediately to strengthen social vigilance and prevent further victims.
County Governor Kim Kwangyeol emphasized, "As contract scams impersonating public officials or public institutions are increasing, I urge all residents and small business owners to always verify the facts before engaging in any transaction, and to report any suspicious cases to the police immediately to prevent damage."
