Trump Begins Coordinating Russia-Ukraine Bilateral Summit... Trilateral Talks to Follow

Donald Trump, President of the United States, announced on August 18 (local time) that he has begun coordinating a bilateral summit between Russia and Ukraine.


After concluding meetings at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, President Trump stated on his social media platform Truth Social, "Following the talks, I called Russian President Vladimir Putin and began coordinating so that President Putin and President Zelensky can meet at a location to be determined in the future."

He added, "After this meeting, the two leaders will hold a trilateral summit with me."


Regarding the earlier multilateral talks with President Zelensky and European leaders, President Trump said, "It was a very good meeting, which concluded with an additional session in the Oval Office," adding, "We discussed security guarantees for Ukraine, which will be provided by several European countries in cooperation with the United States." He also stated, "Everyone is very pleased about the possibility of peace between Russia and Ukraine."
