MOLIT: Freight Train Derails Near Dodam Station on Jungang Line, No Casualties Reported

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that at approximately 8:41 a.m. on August 15, a freight train traveling from Obong Station to Dodam Station on the Jungang Line derailed on the upbound track. The train, manufactured by Goryeo Rolling Stock, experienced a track departure just before entering Dodam Station.


According to the Ministry, as of 10:00 a.m., there have been no reported casualties, and the extent of damage to the track facilities is still under investigation. Both upbound and downbound trains are currently operating on a single track using the available downbound line, resulting in delays for three subsequent trains. Detailed information on the delays is still being compiled.

The Ministry dispatched the Director of Railway Facility Safety, a Railway Safety Supervisor, the Chief of the Jecheon Regional Railway Police, and an investigator from the Korea Transportation Safety Authority to the scene.


The Ministry stated, "We are making every effort to determine the cause of the accident, support recovery efforts, and maintain order at the site," adding, "Swift measures are being taken to resume safe train operations as soon as possible."
