SMCG, a company specializing in glass containers for cosmetics, announced on August 14 that its cumulative sales for the first half of this year reached 29.3 billion KRW, marking a 12.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
Operating profit rose by 49.8% to 2.7 billion KRW. However, net profit recorded a deficit of approximately 200 million KRW due to a one-time merger loss related to the evaluation of Kiwoom No. 7 convertible bonds issued prior to the merger.
A company representative explained, "The strong performance in the first half was driven by the remarkable growth of indie cosmetics brands rather than established major brands," adding, "Domestic indie brand products have ranked among the top on global e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, attracting the attention of overseas consumers."
The rise of indie brands is also bringing positive changes to the cosmetics container industry. Glass containers are not only recyclable but also suitable for conveying a premium image. Indie brands are adopting glass containers as a differentiating factor that highlights both 'premium' and 'eco-friendly' concepts in the competitive cosmetics market.
The company representative added, "With the growth of indie brands, the market for glass containers in cosmetics is also expanding," and noted, "Renewed new products from indie brands are set to launch in the second half of the year."
