Kim Dongyeon Inspects Disaster and Safety Headquarters Amid Heavy Rain to Review Damage and Response

On the morning of August 13, Gyeonggi Province Governor Dongyeon Kim visited the Gyeonggi Province Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to inspect the damage caused by heavy rainfall and review the response system.

Governor Kim pointed to each location displayed on the large screen in the Disaster and Safety Situation Room, including bridge piers, riverside walking paths, and bicycle path entrances, to check the response status for each site.

He then gave instructions regarding the northern region, which is expected to receive up to 200mm of rainfall starting today, stating, "Restoration work from last month's heavy rain damage is still underway. Please be proactive in monitoring, including issuing special weather advisories in advance, to prevent secondary damage due to weakened ground."

In response to the meteorological advisor's explanation that the recent trend of more frequent torrential rains is caused by increased atmospheric water vapor due to rising sea levels and temperatures, he remarked, "Indeed, the impacts of global warming and the climate crisis are significant." He emphasized, "To prepare for extreme heavy rainfall becoming commonplace, it is crucial to carry out regular maintenance and inspections."
