Pohang City Presents Government Awards to Retired Public Officials in the First Half of This Year

30 Retired Public Officials, Including Jang Jongyong, Receive Government Awards
Honoring Dedication and Passion in Public Service
Recognizing Contributions to Municipal Development

On August 12, Pohang City held the "Government Award Ceremony for Retirees in the First Half of 2025" in the City Hall’s External Cooperation Office, honoring retired public officials who have contributed to the development of municipal administration and the nation over many years.

The government award for retirees is a prestigious honor presented to retired public officials who have faithfully carried out their duties during their service, maintained an impeccable public and private life, and contributed to the development of both Pohang City and the country.


The government awards for retired public officials are presented according to years of service as follows: the Order of Service Merit (Geunjeong Medal) for those with over 33 years of service; the Geunjeong Medal (Green Stripes) for those with 30 to less than 33 years; the Presidential Citation for 28 to less than 30 years; the Prime Minister’s Citation for 25 to less than 28 years; and the Minister’s Citation for 10 to less than 25 years of service.


This year’s ceremony recognized 30 recipients: Jang Jongyong received the Hongjo Geunjeong Medal; Ye Eunhee, Choi Myunghwan, Park Byungjun, Shin Gujung, Lee Yunwoo, Choi Muhyung, Cheon Mokwon, Kim Seungtae, and Seo Sookhee received the Nokjo Geunjeong Medal; Kang Hogeun, Kim Sookhee, Kim Ockhee, Kim Jinhan, Kim Taerok, Kim Hyangji, Ryu Deoksun, the late Lee Byeongyeol, Lee Hyungwoo, and Jin Yunmi received the Okjo Geunjeong Medal; Kim Hyunggu, Bae Kyungmin, Jang Hwasook, and Choi Jongwon received the Geunjeong Medal; Lee Seokmoon, Park Hyanghee, Lee Miae, and the late Jang Sungyoon received the Presidential Citation; and Lee Hyunggeun and Jeong Euiji received the Minister’s Citation.


Mayor Lee Gangdeok stated, "The dedication and sense of responsibility you have demonstrated are invaluable assets to Pohang City’s administration and serve as exemplary models for junior public officials. I hope that the experience and wisdom you have accumulated over the years will continue to contribute to the development of our region and the happiness of our citizens."
