Gokseong County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Cho Sangrae) announced on August 10 that it will provide pest and disease control expenses for rice in areas affected by the heavy rain from the 17th to the 19th of last month. The county will carry out pest control during the heading stage to minimize rice crop damage caused by flooding of farmland, especially in the Okgwa region, due to the torrential downpour.

This support for pest control expenses will be provided for parcels registered in the National Disaster Management System (NDMS) following a detailed survey of crop flooding damage. The support amount is 100,000 KRW per hectare of affected area.

According to current rice monitoring in Gokseong County, rice blast and sheath blight (mungo disease) have been detected in some parcels, so pest control is being recommended. However, no damage from rice leaf folder or brown planthopper has been confirmed yet.

An official from the Gokseong Agricultural Technology Center stated, "We will do our best to minimize rice crop damage caused by last month's heavy rain so that high-quality rice can be harvested."
