On August 10, LG Electronics announced that it has renovated the Geumseong Electronics Refresh Center, located in Gyeongdong Market, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, into a space where visitors can experience artificial intelligence (AI).

원본보기 아이콘Since its opening in 2022, the center has become a unique experiential venue, attracting approximately 1.5 million cumulative visitors, especially among people in their 20s and 30s through word of mouth. The center is known for evoking a sense of retro nostalgia, as it displays electronic products made by Geumseong Electronics, the predecessor of LG Electronics.
LG Electronics explained that the focus of this renovation was to further enhance communication with younger customers and to create a space where visitors can more easily and naturally experience the company's 'Empathic Intelligence'?an AI technology redefined by LG Electronics as "technology that is more considerate of and empathetic toward users."
University students majoring in visual, industrial, video, and spatial design participated in the planning process. These students visually expressed the improved daily life enabled by LG Electronics' Empathic Intelligence through visual art. Starting with works by students from Ewha Womans University, various universities will participate sequentially to present new content.
The exhibition is organized into four themes. The first theme, 'AI for Life,' introduces a daily life made more convenient by AI Home through media art. The second theme, 'AI for Air,' features installation art that visualizes a comfortable environment based on LG Electronics' HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) technology. The 'AI for Entertainment' and 'AI for Future' themes consist of interactive art that allows visitors to experience Empathic Intelligence through interaction. Video art using LG smart monitors and cameras recognizes visitors' facial expressions and recommends customized webOS content.
In addition, LG Electronics is working to expand AI experiences through the 'Empathic Intelligence AI for You' campaign. The company is producing and sequentially releasing 24 tech-mentary videos that showcase LG Electronics' Empathic Intelligence technology and vision on its official YouTube channel and other platforms. Employees who participated in AI research and development at LG Electronics appear in these videos. The company is also collaborating with the customer creator group 'LG Electronics Ambassador' to introduce daily life transformed by AI appliances through video content.
Jung Sujin, Head of Brand Communication at LG Electronics, said, "This renovation was designed so that customers can actively participate and naturally experience LG Electronics' Empathic Intelligence," adding, "We will continue to create a better daily life through differentiated AI appliances that empathize with our customers."
