2024 Outpatient Care 'Drug Benefit Appropriateness Assessment'

Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center (Director: Lee Changhun) received the highest grade in the antibiotic safety use category in the '2024 Drug Benefit Appropriateness Assessment' announced by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service.

In this assessment, Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center earned a 'Grade 1' in all major categories, including the antibiotic prescription rate for acute upper and lower respiratory tract infections and the number of drug items prescribed per prescription, thereby demonstrating both transparency and reliability in its medical services.

The 'Drug Benefit Appropriateness Assessment' has been conducted annually by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service since 2001 to reduce the misuse and overuse of antibiotics and injectable drugs and to ensure the appropriateness of drug prescriptions. The 2024 assessment covered outpatient care from January to December.

According to the results, the antibiotic prescription rate for acute upper respiratory tract infections at Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center was 17.06%, which is significantly lower than the overall average of 45.20%. The antibiotic prescription rate for acute lower respiratory tract infections was also only 34.48%, nearly half of the overall average of 61.86%.

In addition, the overall disease antibiotic prescription rate was 2.61% (overall average: 20.13%), and the antibiotic prescription rate for respiratory diseases was 14.54% (overall average: 53.15%), both of which were remarkably low. The amount of antibiotic use (1,364 cases) and the number of prescription days (1,568 days) were both less than half the overall averages. The number of drug items prescribed per prescription was 2.79, which is lower than the overall average of 3.87.

Lee Changhun, Director of Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center, stated, "This is the result of our medical staff carefully prescribing medications in clinical practice," and added, "We will continue to reduce excessive antibiotic prescriptions and promote a culture of patient-centered, responsible medical care."

The results of this assessment are seen as evidence that Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center is establishing itself as a trustworthy medical institution based on medical ethics and professionalism.
