The Namdo Our Alcohol Tasting Contest is a traditional liquor competition that began in 2009. Its purpose is to enhance the competitiveness of traditional liquors made with agricultural specialties produced in the Jeollanam-do region and to widely promote their excellent quality.
Master Ahn was selected as the 16th Korea Master Chef in 2023 and has recently gained public recognition as a chef through his appearance on the Netflix show "Heukbaek Yori-sa."
Jeollanam-do plans to generate synergy between the traditional liquor and gastronomy sectors by appointing Master Ahn as the chairman, and to further strengthen the fairness and objectivity of the contest's operation.
Master Ahn stated, "Traditional liquor is an asset that embodies the history and techniques of Namdo," and added, "I will work to widely promote the excellence of Namdo traditional liquor and help the younger generation feel pride in our alcohol and cuisine."
Myeong Changhwan, Vice Governor of Jeollanam-do, said, "Recently, consumption of traditional liquor has been rapidly increasing, especially among the MZ generation," and continued, "I hope this Namdo Our Alcohol Tasting Contest will serve as an opportunity to promote the excellence of Jeonnam traditional liquor, made with our local agricultural products, throughout the country."
The 2025 Namdo Our Alcohol Tasting Contest will be held on September 2, with more than 30 companies participating. Awards will be given in four categories through expert evaluations.
