On August 6, Woori Financial Group announced that it had signed an MOU at the Seoul Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation. The agreement aims to support national merit recipients and promote a culture of honoring veterans.
The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Kwon Oeul, Woori Financial Group Chairman Lim Jongryong, and officials from both organizations. They reflected on the significance of the 80th anniversary of Liberation and expressed respect and gratitude to national merit recipients. Through this MOU, Woori Financial Group will implement three major public interest projects: providing living expenses support for independence patriots, jointly promoting the "Moduui Bohun Dream" campaign, and launching special financial products commemorating the 80th anniversary of Liberation.
First, Woori Financial Group will provide welfare and living expense support to independence patriots and their families, with a limit of 1 million KRW per person. The support will cover health (such as hospital expenses), daily living (such as clothing and dining), and leisure (such as travel and performances). The group plans to strengthen both the recognition and practical support for those who have dedicated themselves to the nation.
Additionally, Woori Financial Group will actively promote the "Moduui Bohun Dream," an online donation platform operated by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. This platform enables anyone in the country to participate in donations for national merit recipients. Woori Financial Group will use its headquarters' exterior electronic billboards, Woori Bank's customer TVs nationwide, and its YouTube channel to actively promote the platform and contribute to spreading a culture of honoring veterans.
Furthermore, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation, Woori Bank will launch a special savings product, "Woori Gwangbok 80th Anniversary Installment Savings," with a monthly deposit limit of 300,000 KRW, a maximum interest rate of 8.15%, and a total of 100,000 accounts available on a first-come, first-served basis. For every account opened, Woori Bank will donate 815 KRW. Through this initiative, Woori Bank aims to foster a culture of giving together with its customers.
Lim Jongryong, Chairman of Woori Financial Group, stated, "Woori Financial was established in 1899 as the first national capital bank to protect Korean merchants, and we carry this historical mission with us. Through this MOU, we will spare no effort in supporting national merit recipients and promoting a culture of honoring veterans, and we plan to continue social contribution projects with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs every year on Liberation Day."
Meanwhile, since 2022, Woori Financial Group has been operating the "Woori Hero" program to support military personnel, firefighters, and police officers. To date, the group has provided a total of 4,034 million KRW in living expenses, scholarships, and psychological therapy to 2,388 individuals.
