The Korea Construction Association (KCA) announced on August 5 that it has launched a "Task Force for the Eradication of Serious Accidents" dedicated to eliminating serious accidents at construction sites. The association stated it will work closely with the government, local authorities, and the industry to achieve innovation in construction safety.
The KCA held an emergency countermeasure meeting the previous day at its headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, presided over by Chairman Han Seunggu, to discuss autonomous response measures to strengthen safety at construction sites.
The meeting was attended by the heads of more than ten member organizations, including the Korea Specialty Contractors Association, Korea Housing Association, International Contractors Association of Korea, and Korea Mechanical Construction Contractors Association, as well as representatives from construction mutual aid associations, such as the Construction Guarantee, Specialty Contractors Mutual Aid Association, Engineering Guarantee, and external safety experts.
Seunggu Han, president of the Korea Federation of Construction Organizations, presided over the "Emergency Countermeasure Meeting to Eradicate Serious Accidents at Construction Sites" held on the 4th at the federation's office in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, with heads of about 10 associations and organizations in attendance. Attendees included Haksoo Yoon, president of the Korea Specialty Contractors Association; Youngjun Yoon, president of the Korea Housing Association; Manhee Han, president of the Overseas Construction Association; Inho Jo, president of the Korea Mechanical Equipment Construction Association; Jaerok Kim, president of the Korea Institute of Architects; Chunyeop An, president of the Korea Construction Equipment Association; Jongmyeon Park, president of the Korea Construction Technicians Association; Haekyung Lee, president of the Korea Engineering Association; Seokyong Lee, chairman of the Construction Guarantee Fund; Eunjae Lee, chairman of the Specialty Construction Guarantee Fund; Jongseo Kim, acting chairman of the Mechanical Equipment Construction Guarantee Fund; Jaewan Lee, chairman of the Engineering Guarantee Fund; Seungbae Kim, president of the Korea Real Estate Development Association; Imlak Choi, operation committee chairman of the Korea Federation of Construction Organizations; external experts such as Hongseop An, president of the Korea Construction Safety Society; and Suhyun Kwak, president of the Korea Facility Safety Association. 원본보기 아이콘The participants expressed strong support for the policy to eradicate fatal serious accidents, which was discussed at the Cabinet meeting presided over by President Lee Jaemyung on July 29. They also agreed to strengthen the roles and responsibilities of the construction industry.
They decided to expand effective, field-centered safety measures and to pursue institutional improvements to enhance workers' safety awareness and secure safety funding.
Chairman Han Seunggu stated, "The life and safety of the people must take precedence over any other value," and added, "Protecting the lives of workers is both fundamental and the starting point for the sustainable development of the construction industry."
He continued, "The construction industry will actively cooperate with government policies and join forces to establish an effective safety management system."
