The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) announced on August 5 that, together with the Korea Craft and Design Foundation (KCDF), it will host the "2025 Hanbok Store" at Hall D of COEX from August 7 to 10.
The Hanbok Store is the only Hanbok expo in Korea and is being held for the eighth time this year. This year, a record 150 Hanbok brands will participate. In addition to traditional Hanbok and daily Hanbok, Hanbok fabrics and everyday accessories such as Daenggi, Norigae, and Tteoljam will be sold at discounts of up to 80%.
This year's Hanbok Store is themed "Saegejilak (The Joy of Four Seasons)" and aims to highlight the beauty and meaning of Hanbok, which has accompanied people throughout the changing seasons.
At the special exhibition hall, "Textures of the Four Seasons," curated by Shim Yeonok, a traditional textile researcher and professor at the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage, will be presented. The exhibition likens the four seasons to the stages of life, showcasing Korean clothing culture with traditional fabrics for each season?spring (Myeongju), summer (Mosi), autumn (Sukgosa), and winter (Nubi)?from children's wedding attire to attire for the elderly's wedding anniversaries. Over 170 works will be displayed, and weaving demonstrations using both traditional and modern looms will show how traditional textiles are made.
The opening event, scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on August 7, will include an awards ceremony for the Hanbok Design Project Contest and a Hanbok fashion show linked to the special exhibition. Actors Jung Ilwoo and Kwon Yuri will appear in the fashion show.
At the business promotion hall, the following Hanbok business outcomes will be introduced: ▲ 30 award-winning works from the "Hanbok Design Project Contest" to discover new designers, ▲ Hanbok workwear designs developed for various occupations to promote the culture of wearing Hanbok in daily life, and ▲ the "Hanbok Mareumbang" training program to foster Hanbok designers. In addition, there will be hands-on clothing-making events and traditional game competitions with the "Hanbok Pungnyudan."
Further details about the event can be found on the Hanbok Store website. Admission is 5,000 won, but visitors who wear Hanbok or pre-register can enter for free. Pre-registration is available on the Hanbok Store website until August 6.
Lee Jungwoo, Director-General for Culture and Arts Policy at MCST, stated, "Recently, Hanbok has been featured in a variety of K-content and is gaining attention as a symbol of Korea's tradition and beauty. I hope that the culture of wearing Hanbok naturally in our daily lives, not just on special occasions, will continue to spread."
