Son Heungmin Announces Departure from Tottenham: "Leaving the Team This Summer"

Son Heungmin has made a surprise announcement that he will part ways with his club, Tottenham Hotspur, this summer.

On August 2, ahead of the 2025 Coupang Play Series press conference held at The Forum in IFC, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, Son Heungmin announced, "I have decided to leave the team this summer."

Son Heungmin will leave Tottenham exactly 10 years after joining the club in August 2015. After starting his professional career in the German league, he joined Tottenham and made a significant mark by dedicating himself to the team for 10 years. Playing alongside Harry Kane, he achieved his greatest personal honor by becoming the league's top scorer in the 2021-2022 season. After Kane's departure, he led the team as captain to win the UEFA Europa League in the 2024-2025 season.

Tottenham exercised a one-year extension option this January, so Son Heungmin was under contract until the summer of 2026. As he leaves with one year remaining on his contract, Tottenham is expected to secure a transfer fee and prepare for the post-Son Heungmin era.

Son Heungmin's final match in a Tottenham uniform will be the Coupang Play Series game between Tottenham and Newcastle United, scheduled to take place at 8 p.m. on August 3 at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
