Son Heungmin, captain of Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League, has officially announced that he will leave the team this summer.
On August 2, at a press conference for the '2025 Coupang Play Series' held at The Forum at IFC in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, Son Heungmin stated, "After much consideration, I have decided to leave Tottenham this summer."
Since joining Tottenham in August 2015, he has played as a key attacker for the team for 10 years. After starting his professional career in the German Bundesliga, he moved to the Premier League and became the league's top scorer in the 2021-2022 season. In the 2024-2025 season, he led Tottenham to victory in the UEFA Europa League, establishing himself as the club's star player.
According to his second contract renewal signed in July 2021, his contract was originally set to expire this summer. However, the club exercised a one-year extension option, extending his contract until 2026. Recently, however, there have been transfer rumors linking him to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States and the Saudi Arabian league. As a result, it was expected that the match during this visit to Korea would effectively be his last appearance as a Tottenham player.
With the conclusion of the Coupang Play Series match in Korea, Son Heungmin's 10-year journey as a Tottenham player has come to an end.
