In Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, another Japanese national was attacked by an assailant, following a similar incident last year.
According to Kyodo News and other sources on August 1, a Japanese woman walking with her child was injured after being struck by an object resembling a stone at a Suzhou subway station the previous day.
The woman was transported to a hospital for treatment and is reportedly not in life-threatening condition. Authorities are urgently working to apprehend the suspect, who fled the scene.
Kyodo News reported that the Japanese government has requested the Chinese authorities to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals.
The Japanese Embassy in China sent a message to Japanese residents in China in late July, warning them to be particularly cautious due to heightened anti-Japanese sentiment.
In Suzhou, a similar incident occurred in June last year, when a Japanese mother and child were injured by a knife wielded by a Chinese man.
The suspect committed the crime as a school bus from the Suzhou Japanese School, carrying children returning from school, arrived at a bus stop.
