Kim Kunhee Special Prosecutor Files Arrest Warrant for Yoon's Defiance... Myung Taegyun to Be Questioned Tomorrow Over Nomination Manipulation

The special prosecutor team led by Min Jungki filed an arrest warrant on July 30 against former President Yoon Sukyeol, who has repeatedly failed to comply with summons requests. Political broker Myung Taegyun, who is under suspicion for involvement in candidate nomination manipulation, will be summoned for questioning on July 31.

Special Prosecutor Oh Junghui stated at a regular briefing that "former President Yoon did not appear before the special prosecutor today, as he did not yesterday, without providing any reason," and added, "Therefore, the special prosecutor filed an arrest warrant for former President Yoon at 2:12 p.m. today."

Previously, former President Yoon cited health issues and did not comply with the special prosecutor team's summons both on July 29 and again on this day. It was also confirmed that he did not even submit a notice of attorney appointment to the special prosecutor team.

The special prosecutor team is reportedly considering a plan to dispatch one special prosecutor and one prosecutor to the detention center to execute the arrest warrant together with correctional officers, if the warrant is issued.

Additionally, the special prosecutor team plans to question Myung as a suspect on bribery charges over two sessions on July 31 and August 1. Special Prosecutor Oh stated, "We plan to conduct investigations over the next two days," and added, "As far as I know, Myung has expressed his intention to appear."

Former President Yoon is suspected of promising a nomination in exchange for a poll, in connection with Myung's alleged request for nomination. There are also suspicions that, after receiving free polling services from Myung during the 2022 presidential election, Yoon was involved in ensuring that former lawmaker Kim Youngsun was nominated in the parliamentary by-election held in June of the same year.

It has been determined that Myung provided these polling services free of charge a total of 81 times. Myung is also implicated in allegations of manipulating nominations in both the 2022 parliamentary by-election and the April 10 general election last year.

Furthermore, the special prosecutor team announced that, regarding the criminal trial underway at Suwon District Court over the alleged preferential treatment in the Yangpyeong Gongheung District development case involving the family of Mrs. Kim, they requested a tentative scheduling of the trial date, which the court accepted. It is expected that the trial date will be set depending on the progress of the special prosecutor's investigation.

Special Prosecutor Oh explained, "We requested the prosecution, which is maintaining the indictment, to tentatively schedule the trial date for the purpose of submitting additional materials and filing additional indictments," and added, "The appellate division of Suwon District Court, which was handling the case involving the creation of false official documents, accepted this and recently set a tentative date."
