Buan County to Provide Urinary Incontinence Treatment Support for Seniors Aged 60 and Over

Examination, Medication, and Surgery Costs Covered...
Up to 1 Million Won Annually

Starting from August 1, Buan County in North Jeolla Province will provide financial support for urinary incontinence treatment to seniors aged 60 and above who are suffering from this geriatric condition.

According to the county on July 30, urinary incontinence is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the 'Integrated Care Recommendations for Older People.' As a geriatric syndrome, it significantly limits the social participation of the elderly and severely impacts their health and quality of life.

Buan County Public Health Center actively sought to support low-income seniors with urinary incontinence treatment by participating in the Ministry of Health and Welfare's public contest for urinary incontinence treatment support in March. The county was selected as a recipient region.

The support is available to seniors aged 60 or older who have been diagnosed with urinary incontinence and meet the income eligibility criteria. Within an annual limit of 1 million won, the program covers out-of-pocket expenses for urinary incontinence-related examinations, medication, and surgery incurred since January of this year.

Applicants must visit Buan County Public Health Center in person with the required documents, including an ID card, a medical certificate, proof of basic livelihood security recipient status, proof of near-poverty status or single-parent family status, and receipts for medical and medication expenses related to urinary incontinence treatment. However, those who are already receiving emergency medical expense support or have received reimbursement from indemnity insurance are not eligible for duplicate support.

An official from Buan County Public Health Center stated, "Through this support program, we will do our best to ensure that seniors receive timely treatment for geriatric conditions such as urinary incontinence and can enjoy a healthy and dignified later life."
