Shim Kyoeon, who holds a vice-ministerial rank and serves as President of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, will step down with one year and one month remaining in his term.

On July 23, the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements announced, "President Shim has expressed his intention to resign from his post to the government due to personal reasons," adding, "He will continue to serve until the end of this month and then return to his position as a professor in the Department of Real Estate Studies at Konkuk University."

Shim took office in August 2023 and was originally scheduled to complete a three-year term by August next year, but he is stepping down early without finishing his full term.

Shim, who served as the head of the real estate task force for the Presidential Transition Committee under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, is a prominent scholar known for his critical stance on real estate policies during the Moon Jae In administration.
