In the first half of this year, the total securities settlement amount in the domestic market reached 3,326.4 trillion won, an increase of 15.1% compared to the same period last year.
According to the Korea Securities Depository on July 22, out of the total securities settlement amount, stock settlements accounted for 239.7 trillion won, while bond settlements totaled 3,086.7 trillion won. The settlement amount in the on-exchange stock market was recorded at 106.9 trillion won.
The settlement amount in the on-exchange bond market was 358.1 trillion won, representing only 11.6% of the total bond settlement amount (3,086.7 trillion won). This is because the majority of bond transactions are conducted over-the-counter from the outset.
The settlement amount for institutional investors in stocks was 132.8 trillion won, showing a slight decrease compared to the same period last year (135.5 trillion won). Settlement for institutional investors in stocks refers to the payment of stock transaction amounts between securities firms that conduct brokerage transactions of listed securities, institutional investors, and foreign investors, who are clients of securities firms.
The settlement amount for institutional investors in bonds reached 2,728.6 trillion won, up from 2,316.6 trillion won in the first half of last year.
By type, bonds such as government bonds accounted for the largest share of settlement amounts at 1,606 trillion won, followed by certificates of deposit (CD) and commercial paper (CP) at 530.5 trillion won, and short-term bonds at 592.1 trillion won.
