Tragedy Strikes at Lille Hospital as Unsupervised Child Causes Fatal Incident

A shocking incident has occurred in France, where a six-year-old boy is under investigation by authorities for allegedly killing a newborn at a maternity hospital.

According to reports from British media outlets The Sun and The Independent on the 16th (local time), a 12-day-old baby girl was declared brain dead and passed away on the 15th at Jeanne de Flandre Children's Hospital in Lille, northern France. The baby, who was born six weeks premature and was staying in the neonatal unit, was found on the floor with severe brain injuries. She was immediately transferred to the intensive care unit for treatment, but ultimately died.

At the time of the incident, the unconscious baby was found alone with the six-year-old boy. Hospital officials stated that the boy appeared to have pulled the baby out of her bed and dropped her onto the floor. A mother in a neighboring room testified, "I suddenly heard a loud thud." She also revealed that the boy had previously tried to touch another baby in a stroller.

The boy was identified as the child of another mother who was in the same ward. It was reported that the boy's mother was recovering after childbirth and that he was left without a guardian at the time.

The bereaved family claimed that the boy was often seen wandering around the hospital without supervision. The deceased baby's grandmother said, "The boy came to the hospital every morning at 7 a.m. and ran up and down the corridors all day. Mothers who were hospitalized complained about this, and a nurse even warned the boy's mother to restrain her son." She added, "Our family, especially the baby's mother, is in deep shock. This is something that should never have happened."

The baby's father told local media of his devastation, but also said, "Any six-year-old can get into mischief. I do not blame his mother, who had just given birth," and stated that he could not hold the boy personally responsible. However, he added, "The child should have been supervised." He criticized the hospital for failing to protect his daughter and is reportedly demanding a response from the hospital.

French authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. The hospital is also conducting an internal review.
