On July 21, Netflix announced that it will produce a new series titled 'Variety,' set against the backdrop of the K-pop idol industry.
'Variety' depicts the ambitions of Saeun, the CEO of an entertainment company who created the top idol group, Seunghee, a devoted fan who follows them obsessively, and the desires of those surrounding them.
Director Kim Yonghoon, known for the Netflix series 'Mask Girl' (2023) and the film 'Beasts Clawing at Straws' (2020), will shed light on the diverse characters and desires within the K-pop entertainment industry.
The role of Saeun, the top entertainment CEO with exceptional planning skills, will be played by actress Son Yejin. Saeun is a character who does not hesitate to make cold-hearted decisions for her goals and is willing to risk everything to renew the contract with the idol group she personally fostered.
Jo Yuri, who appeared in seasons 2 and 3 of 'Squid Game,' will portray Seunghee, the obsessive fan. Seunghee will stop at nothing and follows every move of her favorite member in order to meet them.
