The Korea Center on Gambling Problems Prevention and Recovery (hereinafter referred to as "the Center") has upgraded its existing chatbot by integrating "generative AI" technology, in collaboration with the AI solutions specialist company Makebot, to create an advanced AI counseling chatbot called "Dandobot."

The new AI counseling chatbot, which incorporates Makebot's proprietary large language model (LLM) technology and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) capabilities, surpasses the traditional keyword-matching chatbot by providing both emotional counseling and open-ended Q&A. Through systematic training on counseling manuals, it achieves a level of expertise comparable to that of a human counselor, while also offering 24/7 accessibility.

In particular, unlike conventional chatbots that deliver one-sided information in a "pre-determined answer" manner, this upgraded chatbot distinguishes itself by recognizing the user's emotional state and providing appropriate empathy and encouragement.

Typically, widely used chatbots have relied on natural language processing (NLP) technology, which only enables them to handle fragmented responses pre-trained by administrators for a limited set of queries. Even after the emergence of advanced AI technologies such as "generative AI" in the wake of the ChatGPT phenomenon, some AI development companies have not been able to guarantee the necessary accuracy or reliability, so NLP-based chatbots are still widely used in practice.

However, the advanced "Dandobot" is being recognized for providing a breakthrough in AI-powered counseling by significantly reducing generative AI hallucinations and enhancing accuracy through Makebot's proprietary technology, while effectively incorporating the Center's specialized counseling expertise.

Unlike general public service or corporate customer support chatbots, counseling services that include emotional care for users can benefit from generative AI by avoiding rigid information delivery, reducing the burden of hallucinations, and providing personalized counseling and emotional support.

Accordingly, this case is drawing attention as it is expected to enable the expansion of AI counseling technology into various fields such as school psychological counseling, depression counseling, and employee assistance programs (EAP). It is also anticipated to be used as a tool for counselor education and training, supporting the enhancement of expertise through scenario practice and case analysis.

Makebot provides AI counseling solutions tailored to the characteristics of public institutions, educational organizations, medical institutions, and companies, and is leading the AI market with its diverse portfolio of patented AI technologies. In particular, Makebot's RAG technology for improving AI accuracy will be introduced at SIGIR 2025, the world's leading academic conference in the field of search technology, which will be held this month in Padova, Italy, showcasing Korea's AI technology to the world.
