Following the Nakwol Offshore Wind Power project, Hanbit Offshore Wind Power announced on July 15 that it has signed a business agreement with KEPCO KDN to establish information and communication technology (ICT) facilities for offshore wind power generation complexes and to build a system for ensuring both cyber and physical safety and security.

KEPCO KDN, a subsidiary of Korea Electric Power Corporation and a state-owned enterprise specializing in energy ICT, is actively supporting the offshore wind power business by leveraging its experience in building and consulting on information security infrastructure for national power facilities, as well as operating cyber security monitoring. The company is contributing to the establishment of supply chain security management systems for power grids, ensuring compliance with domestic and international cybersecurity regulations, and strengthening systems for preventing and responding to cyber threats.

After establishing the integrated control system and power grid security management system for the large-scale Nakwol Offshore Wind Power project with a capacity of 364.8MW, KEPCO KDN has decided to continue its cooperation with the 340MW Hanbit Offshore Wind Power project.

Nakwol Offshore Wind Power and Hanbit Offshore Wind Power plan to further strengthen the safety and security systems of Korea's leading offshore wind power projects by collaborating with KEPCO KDN, which has obtained certification under the Korea Cryptographic Module Validation Program (KCMVP).

Through this business agreement, KEPCO KDN and Hanbit Offshore Wind Power have agreed to actively cooperate on the following matters to establish robust safety and security systems for offshore wind power generation complexes.

First, KEPCO KDN will provide maximum technical support and cooperation for the construction and scheduled maintenance of ICT facilities at the Hanbit Offshore Wind Power complex. In addition, the company will review government security guidelines and designs, and establish systems to prevent cyber threats, in order to build robust cyber security and physical protection systems for the stable operation of the Hanbit Offshore Wind Power complex.

Furthermore, both parties will jointly cooperate in monitoring the certification process for offshore wind power complexes currently being developed by the government, and in obtaining certification during the evaluation process.

A representative from Hanbit Offshore Wind Power stated, "Nakwol Offshore Wind Power and Hanbit Offshore Wind Power are representative offshore wind power projects led by domestic companies, not foreign entities. By collaborating with KEPCO KDN, Korea's leading energy ICT safety and security company and public enterprise, and by actively participating in the government-led 'offshore wind power complex certification,' we will make significant contributions to strengthening the safety and security systems in Korea's offshore wind power sector, which is still in its early stages."
