The Masan Fire Station in Changwon Special City, South Gyeongsang Province, is operating the 119 Heatwave Ambulance Team until September 30 to respond quickly to the occurrence of heat-related illnesses amid the ongoing heatwave.
The 119 Heatwave Ambulance Team is a special emergency team equipped with heatwave response equipment such as ice vests, saline solution, thermometers, and intravenous injection sets in ambulances, in order to provide specialized treatment and transport for patients suffering from heat-related illnesses.
Masan Fire Station has designated 11 ambulances and 11 fire pump vehicles (pumbulances), which are used as reserves when ambulances are unavailable, as 119 Heatwave Ambulance Teams to ensure a rapid response system.
To prevent heat-related illnesses in advance, it is important to follow daily safety guidelines such as regularly checking weather information, refraining from outdoor activities between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., staying sufficiently hydrated, and using air conditioning appropriately to prevent air-conditioning sickness.
Jang Changmoon, Chief of Masan Fire Station, stated, "By operating the 119 Heatwave Ambulance Team, we will strengthen the system for treating and transporting patients suffering from heat-related illnesses and do our best to ensure that citizens have a safe summer."
