On July 8, the police announced, "We will respond strictly to illegal acts of violence with a zero-tolerance policy," one day before the court's pretrial detention hearing (warrant review) that will determine whether former President Yoon Suk-yeol will be detained again.
According to the legal community, Nam Sejin, the judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, will conduct a warrant review for former President Yoon, who is facing charges including obstruction of special official duties, starting at 2:15 p.m. on July 9.
The police plan to deploy about 2,000 riot police officers and approximately 350 pieces of blocking equipment, such as safety fences, around the Central District Court until the warrant issuance process is fully completed.
A police official stated, "Taking the incident at the Western District Court as a lesson, if similar illegal acts of violence are attempted or occur, we will use all available equipment, including capsaicin sprayers, to the fullest extent," and added, "We will also thoroughly track down and take strict legal action against those who incite illegal acts."
