Sacheon City in South Gyeongsang Province is accelerating its efforts to nurture talent in the aerospace industry, taking another step forward to become the central city of South Korea's aerospace sector.
The city and Gyeongsang National University announced on July 3 that they held an opening ceremony for the Department of Aerospace Technology Management at Sacheon GNU Science Park and have officially begun operating the department.
Since Gyeongsang National University was selected for the "2023 Glocal University 30" project, Sacheon City and Gyeongsang National University have proclaimed the vision for the Department of Aerospace Technology Management, launched a master's program in September 2024, and have been offering classes to 34 students at Gyeongsang National University and other locations.

This has significantly strengthened the environment for aerospace education and research. Gyeongsang National University plans to further develop this location as a hub for aerospace education and industry-academia collaboration.
The opening ceremony brought together current students of the Department of Aerospace Technology Management, representatives from Sacheon City, Gyeongsang National University, the Korea Aerospace Administration, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), and other major organizations and companies in the aerospace sector, making it a meaningful event to envision Sacheon's future.
In his congratulatory speech, Sacheon Mayor Park Dongsik said, "I congratulate Gyeongsang National University on being selected for the Ministry of Education's Glocal University 30 project, allowing it to become a center of regional innovation and a university with global competitiveness. I am pleased that Sacheon City is able to be at the heart of this achievement," adding, "We will spare no administrative and financial support to foster professional talent and support the startup ecosystem so that Sacheon can grow as the center of South Korea's aerospace industry."
The Department of Aerospace Technology Management offers a practice-oriented master's program that integrates technology and management. Classes are held on weekday evenings and weekends, allowing working professionals and local talent to balance work and study. Students receive practical, field-oriented education and can strengthen their industrial capabilities through close cooperation with industry-academia-research organizations, such as the Sacheon branch of the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL), located within Sacheon GNU Science Park.
Meanwhile, with the opening ceremony, Sacheon City is further strengthening its tripartite agreement system among Sacheon City, Gyeongsang National University, and industry. In addition to signing agreements with six companies last year, 13 new companies entered into agreements at this opening ceremony, establishing a virtuous cycle for industrial development and talent cultivation in the Sacheon region. Aerospace-related companies based in Sacheon, including Daedong Gear, AST Co., Ltd., Doowon Heavy Industrial Co., Ltd., and Aeromaster Co., Ltd., actively participated in these agreements.
