Busan Institute of Science and Technology for Higher Education Promotion (President Kim Youngbu, BISTEP) is moving to expand collaboration with local universities centered on industrial technology R&D.

On June 27, BISTEP held a 'Central-Local University Collaboration Meeting' together with the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (President Min Byungjoo, KIAT) at the Lavalse Hotel in Yeongdo, Busan, to discuss ways to strengthen the foundation for nurturing young talent at local universities.

The meeting was attended by Min Byungjoo, President of KIAT, vice presidents of major universities in Busan, officials from Busan Metropolitan City, and related organizations. The participants shared the central government's industrial technology R&D policy direction and explored ways to expand local university participation and link related systems.

In particular, discussions focused on connecting the technological demands required in advanced industries with the educational and research capabilities of local universities, with the goal of both encouraging young talent to settle in the region and driving industrial innovation.

Min Byungjoo, President of KIAT, stated, "Various R&D business models and institutional foundations are being established to enable local universities to participate proactively," adding, "There is a need for practical connections such as talent development programs for young people and the introduction of hands-on projects."

At the meeting, representatives from local universities proposed expanding practical, industry-demand-based education, increasing substantive R&D participation, and improving related systems, expressing their willingness to cooperate.

Kim Youngbu, President of BISTEP, said, "This meeting has served as an opportunity to concretize the connection between the central R&D agency and local universities," and added, "We will continue to support local universities so they can grow into hubs that connect industry and young talent through research and development."

Previously, in April, BISTEP also held a meeting with university presidents and deans to discuss AI-based regional specialization strategies, further focusing on expanding the foundation for collaboration to strengthen the local R&D ecosystem.
