In the '2025 Regional Contribution Survey' conducted by Busan City, which evaluated 151 stores operated by 15 major retail companies, including department stores and large supermarkets in the region, Shinsegae Centum City was selected as the 'Best Company' for the fourth consecutive year.
The regional contribution survey, first introduced in 2009 to encourage win-win cooperation among large retail companies, evaluates the previous year's performance in two areas and eight categories, including local employment, participation in public interest projects, and the inclusion of local companies as tenants.
Since establishing a dedicated department for social contribution activities in 2022, Shinsegae Centum City has received the highest evaluation in the regional contribution survey every year, maintaining the 'Best Company' title for four consecutive years through 2025.
▲ Active Participation in Various Public Interest Projects and Efforts to Promote Local 'Tourism'
This achievement is considered even more meaningful, as it recognizes the company's ongoing social contribution activities despite the overall downturn in the retail industry caused by prolonged high inflation and economic stagnation.
The 'Local Talent Hope Scholarship' program, which has been held every year since the store opened, has surpassed a cumulative donation amount of 2 billion won. This year, the company launched the 'With Shinsegae' initiative, operating a program designed to provide more long-term and close-knit support.
In addition, the 'Marine Ecological Forest' project, which began in 2023 through a business agreement with Busan City, successfully completed its first year and is now entering its second year. While carrying out the project, the company has also promoted it to citizens through newspaper and TV advertisements, raising awareness of the seriousness of 'marine pollution' and actively spreading the importance of 'marine ecosystem conservation.'
The company also supports the attraction of various cultural and tourism content to align with Busan's status as a 'global tourism city.'
Last year, by providing an outdoor parking lot site free of charge, the company supported the hosting of the world-renowned show 'Cirque du Soleil,' which attracted a total of 75,400 visitors and set a record for the highest domestic audience, contributing to the influx of domestic and international tourists and revitalizing the local economy.
In addition to supporting a variety of citizen events, such as concerts including the 'Youth Orchestra,' the company also sponsors major local festivals such as the 'Sand Festival,' 'Light Festival,' and 'Busan Biennale,' helping to ensure the continuity of diverse content.
Furthermore, for 17 consecutive years, the company has been a reliable supporter of the local community by continuing initiatives such as the 'Green Umbrella Santa Expedition,' which assists children and youth in need at the end of each year, and by providing goods to neighbors in welfare blind spots.
▲ Diverse Activities for Mutual Growth with Local Companies
Additionally, Shinsegae Centum City continuously carries out sales channel development and promotional activities throughout the year to achieve mutual growth with local companies.
Notably, 'Dongbaek Sanghoe,' a shop selling outstanding products from Busan's small and medium-sized enterprises, is now in its third year. Over the past two years since its opening, 70 companies have participated, showcasing more than 280 products. Starting this month, around 30 new companies and products from the 'Dongbaek Sanghoe 4th Class' will be introduced.
The company also holds various dessert events during the 'Donghaeng Festival' and operates the 'Busan Fashion Market' to discover and foster new designers in Busan. These efforts support the development of sales channels for a wide range of brands, from local food to fashion. In addition, special exhibitions and events for young entrepreneurs and artists provide opportunities for local youth to interact directly with consumers at the department store and establish their business foundations.
This year, the company has expanded its support for local brands beyond offline channels by launching 'online live shopping.'
Through the 'Shinbaek LIVE' section in the Shinsegae Department Store application, the company introduced products from eight local brands, resulting in an increase of more than 30% in online sales. Offline sales also rose by 25% due to the effect of online broadcasts.
In particular, Busan's premium rice cracker brand 'Idaemyeonggwa' and leading fan manufacturer 'Lumena' have gained nationwide recognition through online promotional activities and are accelerating their expansion into the Seoul metropolitan area and beyond, solidifying their status as 'national brands.'
Park Soonmin, Executive Director and Store Manager of Shinsegae Centum City, stated, "Being selected as the Best Company this time is especially meaningful, as it recognizes our emphasis on the importance of contributing to the local community despite internal and external uncertainties. We will continue to fulfill our corporate social responsibility through social contribution activities in various fields, including the local economy, culture, and education, and seek ways to grow together with the region."
