Beware of Purchase Scams Involving Fake Official Documents and Business Cards Impersonating KORAIL

Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on June 20 that it is urging the public to be cautious of attempted purchase scams involving individuals impersonating KORAIL or its employees.

According to KORAIL, there have been frequent attempts nationwide to commit purchase scams by impersonating public institutions in recent days.

The scam involves sending official documents under false names such as 'KORAIL Jeonnam Regional Headquarters Director' or 'KORAIL Metropolitan Western Headquarters General Affairs Department,' and then inducing pharmacies and other businesses to make purchases or remit funds.

In response, KORAIL has posted a warning pop-up about impersonation scams on its official website and its mobile app 'KORAIL Talk.' The company also plans to cooperate with investigative authorities to prevent further damage.

A KORAIL official stated, "If there is any suspicious transaction attempt by someone claiming to be from our institution or an employee, you must carefully verify its authenticity." The official also advised, "If you become a victim of fraud, please secure evidence such as call records and exchanged text messages, and report the incident to the police."
