On this day, Lee made these remarks while discussing his thoughts on being appointed as special prosecutor at his law office in Seocho-dong, Seoul. The Chae Corporal special prosecution will handle allegations of investigation interference and cover-up related to the death of Marine Corporal Chae in July 2023.

Lee said, "Twenty-three years ago, I investigated military service corruption. Even then, I firmly refused any requests to cover things up and did my job with conviction. This time will be no different." He added, "Regardless of external pressure or any such factors, I will clearly reveal the truth about this unjust death."

Regarding the selection of assistant special prosecutors, he said, "I need to start looking for candidates now," and added, "The defense attorneys for Colonel Park Junghoon are my former juniors from previous workplaces, so it would be good if they are selected." The special prosecutor nominates eight candidates for assistant special prosecutor, and the president then appoints four of them.

Lee also stated, "As far as I know, the presidential office, the national security office, and the Ministry of National Defense all have their call records revealed, yet they continue to deny the facts. If even one party admits the truth first, the rest will follow easily." He continued, "Since investigations have already been conducted by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials and through hearings, I believe that if we focus on who is lying, the truth will be uncovered."

Lee is a former military judge advocate and previously investigated allegations of military service corruption involving the eldest son of former Grand National Party leader Lee Hoi-chang in 2022.
