Hanwha Ocean will present a closing fireworks show at the "2025 Geoje Okpo Naval Battle Festival," symbolizing the victory of the Okpo Naval Battle, the first naval victory of the Imjin War.
This goes beyond typical corporate sponsorship, representing an active effort to integrate with local culture.
Geoje City will host the Geoje Okpo Naval Battle Festival from June 13 to 15 at Okpo Waterfront Park. Hanwha Ocean will oversee the closing fireworks show, which will take place on the final day of the festival, June 15, starting at 9:30 p.m. and lasting for about 20 minutes.
The Okpo Naval Battle fireworks show by Hanwha Ocean is more than just a visual spectacle. It will be a multimedia production centered on storytelling, offering a modern reinterpretation of Admiral Yi Sunshin's spirit and the historical significance of the Okpo Naval Battle.
The fireworks show, titled "Okpo, The Legend Written in Fire: Prologue," will consist of three acts.
Act 1, "The Silent Sea," will depict the tense atmosphere of the Okpo sea before battle, using restrained fireworks and sound effects.
Act 2, "The Beginning of Battle," will visualize the fierce naval combat and Admiral Yi Sunshin's determined advance through fireworks, lasers, and lighting.
The final act, "The Prologue of Legend," will express the joy of victory through a dazzling performance combining drones and fireworks.
In particular, this fireworks show will feature medium-sized fireworks drones illuminating the night sky. The maritime venue, divided into three staging zones, will have lasers, lighting, fireworks, and sound equipment perfectly synchronized.
A Hanwha Ocean official stated, "The Okpo Naval Battle was Admiral Yi Sunshin's first victory and symbolizes the roots of the Republic of Korea Navy. As a leading local company, we are honored to participate directly in this meaningful event. Through cultural content that incorporates advanced technology, we aim to inspire both citizens and tourists, and we will continue to grow together with the local community."
The Geoje Okpo Naval Battle Festival is held every June in Geoje to commemorate the Okpo Naval Battle, where the Joseon Navy achieved its first victory against Japanese forces during the Imjin War.
This year, Geoje City plans to ensure the safety of citizens by deploying more traffic control personnel at the event site compared to last year.
