An accident occurred in which a man in his 70s, who was handling a traffic accident on the road, was struck and killed by a 119 ambulance that had been dispatched to the scene.
According to the Gokseong Police Station in South Jeolla Province on June 11, at around 2:22 a.m. that day, a man in his 70s, identified as A, was hit by a 119 ambulance on a road in Gokseong-eup, Gokseong County.
At the time, A had reportedly been involved in a traffic accident in which he rear-ended a tractor driven by B, who was driving on the road just before the accident. A had exited his vehicle to handle the aftermath of the accident.
The 119 ambulance was responding to a report made by A and was on its way to the scene, but it is reported that the ambulance failed to spot A in time, resulting in the accident.
A was transported to the hospital by fire authorities, but he suffered severe injuries and ultimately died. In addition, B, the tractor driver in his 50s who was involved in the accident caused by A, was also taken to the hospital but died.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
