Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwangdeok), announced on June 9 that the green light has been given for the "Namyangju Second Gyeongchun Connection Private Expressway" project, which will connect Donghopyeong IC (Suseok-Hopyeong Urban Expressway) and the Second Gyeongchun National Road over a total length of 11.2 kilometers.

This expressway project secured its feasibility and eligibility for private investment after a private business operator submitted a proposal in 2023 and Namyangju City expressed strong commitment to the project. Following a feasibility study for private investment projects by the Public and Private Infrastructure Investment Management Center of the Korea Development Institute (KDI), the project obtained approval in about one year and six months.

Accordingly, the city plans to leverage the advantages of the private investment model to minimize fiscal burden, while comprehensively reviewing the stability of the investment structure and the overall feasibility of the project.

In particular, Namyangju City will coordinate the project schedule to maximize the connection between the two roads, taking into account the timeline and opening date of the Second Gyeongchun National Road project currently being promoted by the Seoul Regional Construction and Management Administration and other agencies.

Once the Second Gyeongchun Connection Private Expressway project is completed, it is expected to not only alleviate congestion on National Route 46, but also significantly improve east-west traffic flow between Seoul and Chuncheon.

Mayor Joo Gwangdeok stated, "This road will serve as key transportation infrastructure that enhances accessibility for Namyangju citizens to Seoul, Chuncheon, and other areas, and will become a core foundation for the city's future development. Through organic connection with the Second Gyeongchun National Road, we will improve the overall transportation system and simultaneously enhance both the mobility of our citizens and the region's growth potential."
