On June 9, Governor Kim wrote on his Facebook page, "I welcome the Seoul High Court's decision to schedule the retrial related to the Public Official Election Act for President Lee Jae Myung at a later date," emphasizing, "This is only natural."
He continued, "Although the court did not explicitly state that there would be no trials during the president's term, it appears that, in accordance with Article 84 of the Constitution, there will be no trials during his tenure." He added, "All other trial procedures, such as the perjury instigation trial and the Daejang-dong trial involving President Lee Jae Myung, should also be suspended."
He went on to say, "This is consistent with common sense and the public's sense of justice," and explained, "In the United States as well, it is customary for trials against a sitting president to be suspended during their term in office."
He also stated, "This is an opportunity to pursue legislation that clearly defines the constitutional privilege of presidential immunity from prosecution," and urged, "The National Assembly should eliminate further controversy by promptly amending the Criminal Procedure Act to suspend criminal trial procedures against a sitting president in line with the intent of the Constitution."
