EXEM, a company specializing in integrated IT performance management, announced on June 5 that it will participate in the Korea Coast Guard's project titled "Development of Digital Transformation Technology for AI-based Marine Disaster Response System." The project has a total budget of 9.8 billion KRW and will run from this year through 2027. Alongside EXEM, other participants include the lead research institute GMT, Marine Information Technology, and the Korea Institute of Marine Science and Technology Promotion (KIMST), which serves as a professional institution.
Recently, due to climate change, increased vessel and maritime activities, and marine development, the marine environment has been changing rapidly, resulting in increasingly complex patterns of marine disasters. The project aims to apply AI to the Korea Coast Guard's field operations in order to respond effectively to these complex marine disasters. The goal is to implement a digital transformation system and services that can convert marine disaster data into a format that AI can learn from and recognize. The project will establish a standardized data system that enables real-time collection and analysis of marine information data from various sources, and will lay the groundwork for AI utilization by linking with multiple platforms.
The project will also develop artificial intelligence models that analyze and predict various types of data from marine disaster sites?including past marine accident response cases, administrative information system data, various marine disaster response manuals, and images and videos collected at marine accident scenes?to support scientific decision-making by the Korea Coast Guard.
EXEM is responsible for the "Implementation of an AIOps-based Platform for Integrated AI Management of Marine Disaster Data and Situation-specific Response." EXEM explained that it will apply its know-how in marine data collection, storage, and utilization?gained through its digital transformation consulting project for KSS Shipping from September 2024 to last month?to this new project.
Ko Pyungseok, CEO of EXEM, stated, "Advanced countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and the EU are already improving the efficiency and accuracy of marine disaster response operations using AI," and added, "We will spare no effort in leveraging EXEM's AI technology to help safeguard the safety of our territorial waters."
