This year, through this scholarship program, the foundation plans to select 250 children of public officials who died or were injured in the line of duty and award 4 million won per student, ranging from elementary school students to university students.
This award ceremony was held for 95 children of professional soldiers selected in cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense and the Patriots Scholarship Foundation. From September to November, the foundation plans to hold additional ceremonies for 155 children of Korea Coast Guard officers, police officers, and firefighters.
Jang Hyesun, Chairperson of the Lotte Scholarship Foundation, stated, "The purpose of the Shin Kyukho Lotte Patriotism Scholarship is to sincerely express our gratitude to those who have devoted themselves to protecting the country and their families, and to remind our citizens of their sacrifices," adding, "We will continue to consider how we can provide practical support to you and will offer ongoing assistance."
Previously, the Lotte Scholarship Foundation began providing the Patriotism Scholarship in 2015 to children of firefighters, and later expanded the program to include children of police officers, Korea Coast Guard officers, and professional soldiers who died or were injured in service to the nation. To date, the foundation has awarded a cumulative total of 6.5 billion won in scholarships to approximately 2,700 students.
