Exhibit Featuring Rising Sun Flag and "Joseonjin" Slur Installed and Removed Overnight... What Happened at Hansung University?

An incident occurred at Hansung University when an exhibit featuring a depiction resembling the Rising Sun Flag and hate speech was installed and then removed.

According to university sources on June 4, several exhibits were installed inside a building at Hansung University in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, at around 11:10 p.m. the previous day. The exhibits included a painting that appeared to combine the Taegeukgi and the Rising Sun Flag, which symbolizes Japanese imperialism, as well as displays containing hate speech such as "Disgusting Joseonjin (a derogatory term for Koreans) know no shame."

Another exhibit contained the phrase, "Joseon is the only country waging a moral competition."

These exhibits spread through the university's online community and sparked controversy.

According to Hansung University, the exhibits were installed by a male student enrolled in the university's Department of Painting. The university stated that the exhibits had not received official approval, and that they were voluntarily removed about 40 minutes after installation, at 11:50 p.m.

Meanwhile, Hansung University announced that it will take administrative action against the student in accordance with relevant regulations.
