Kim Yongtae, acting leader of the People Power Party's emergency committee, stated on May 31, "I hope former President Yoon Seokyeol will not come anywhere near the People Power Party."
On this day, Kim posted on his social media Facebook account, "Although former President Yoon left the party, it was effectively an expulsion," and added, "Initially, the People Power Party planned to revise the party constitution to create a new clause for the automatic expulsion of former President Yoon if he did not voluntarily leave the party."
He continued, "The biggest beneficiary of the martial law was Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea," and added, "If it were not for the martial law, candidate Lee would not only have been unable to run for president, but would likely have been expelled from politics by now."
He also said, "Today, the People Power Party revised the party constitution to explicitly prohibit presidential intervention in party affairs. To be precise, this is a 'Yoon Seokyeol prevention' revision." On this morning, the People Power Party's National Committee held its 16th meeting at the National Assembly and passed a constitutional amendment to clarify the separation of the party and the president.
On the same day, former President Yoon delivered a message through a representative at a Gwanghwamun rally led by Pastor Jeon Kwanghoon, stating, "In order to protect this country's liberal democracy and restore normalcy, I earnestly ask everyone to go to the polls on June 3 and give your support to candidate Kim Moonsoo."
