To mark the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Japan, Choi Taewon, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, held a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru.
On the 27th, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced that Chairman Choi met with Prime Minister Ishiba at the Prime Minister's Office in Tokyo, Japan.
This meeting was arranged to discuss the necessity and methods of expanding economic cooperation between the two countries in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations this year. Attendees included Chairman Choi, Park Iljun, Executive Vice Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Lee Hyunghee, Vice Chairman of the Seoul Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman of the SK SUPEX Council Communication Committee), among others.

원본보기 아이콘Chairman Choi stated, "As both South Korea and Japan are facing difficulties due to the spread of global protectionism, including U.S. reciprocal tariffs, it is necessary to expand economic cooperation between the two countries and to strengthen close collaboration for this purpose." He added, "I asked Prime Minister Ishiba for the Japanese government's attention and support for the activities of companies from both countries." In addition, ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in Gyeongju this October, he requested Prime Minister Ishiba's interest in the APEC CEO Summit hosted by the Chamber, as well as the participation of leading Japanese companies.
On the same day, following his meeting with the Prime Minister, Chairman Choi visited the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and met with Kobayashi Ken, Chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This visit to the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry was the first in about three years since 2022, and cooperation measures between the chambers of the two countries were discussed, including the 14th Korea-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Presidents' Meeting, which marks its 14th year this year. The 14th Korea-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Presidents' Meeting is scheduled to be held in South Korea at the end of this year.
